Impulse/Gamestop
Published on January 7, 2012 By Frankief In WindowBlinds

I needed to uninstall WB due to some problems with it not loading at boot occasionally and thought a fresh install might fix it up. There were two entries in Programs and features for WB, one WB7 and one just WB. When I tried to uninstall the WB7 I was instructed that I needed Impulse to uninstall so I downloaded it and uninstalled through it. I then was able to uninstall the second entry with Revo. The only real question I have is that since I installed the new version with the executable from the Stardock store, is it safe to axe Impulse/Gamestop again? I would assume that I would not have a problem uninstalling the newer version through control panel or with Revo?

What I did was to uninstall everything that was installed through Impulse using GameStop/Impulse. Then I ran CCleaner, rebooted and reinstalled everything through the store.

If you have any installs left that were done by Impulse, dump it now, then say good-bye to GameStop. I used Revo for that to get rid of as much of it as possible.

So, basically what you are saying is that even though I have access to the files on the store that should I run into a problem with one of the other components in the future, I would have to have Impulse/Gamestop to uninstall?

Frankief
I would have to have Impulse/Gamestop to uninstall?

Yes, you will need it every time you want uninstall an ODNT app if Impulse was used for the initial install. I have almost all of ODNT installed, so yes, it was a lot to redo, but necessary.

With the new update client coming, why have anything still tied to Impulse/GameStop?

Thanks Wiz. Guess I should have asked first. I did download and install fresh from the store not realizing that I needed to uninstall each before reinstalling. I thought once I did the full install from the store it would exclude Impulse but I guess not. Lots of work, yes. Will put it on my immediate agenda!

Thought I would revisit this here rather than start a new post. I am really bummed with this experience. I uninstalled everything through Impulse/Gamestop, uninstalled Impulse/GS,ran registry cleaner, downloaded all my apps from the store and reinstalled one by one. Logon Studio Vista would not install. Kept getting the message that the installer was bad and to contact the vendor. Tried it in compatibility mode and "run as admin" but it was a no go. I did re-download it several times but do not think it is the correct installer. It is only 1.78MB in size. After much frustration I reluctantly reinstalled I/Gs and was able to get Longon Studio installed through it but now I am stuck with it again. Any thoughts on this?

The version I have listed is 1.70.021[2.00MB] and the file size is 1.75MB, which works fine for me. That's the one from the store.

There is also the public version available on Download.com through THIS link. File version 1.7.0.0 file size 7.53MB.You may want to try that one. Be advised that Download dotcom may have bundled other crapware with it, check all install options carefully.

You should not need Impulse in any form to install or run a free app. I'd fire off a letter to support even though officially, LS is no longer supported, The installer should still work.

Wiz, thanks for your response. I have downloaded the one from your link and will try uninstalling and reinstalling in the morning. Will let you know how it goes!

Right after Impulse was sold I uninstalled it and all of my apps came from the store. The backup installers from my previous laptop worked fine and Impulse never even figured into it. Guess I got lucky.

Frankief, if that doesn't work, give support an email.

Sorry to be so remiss in stating how the solution worked. The one from the download link worked without any unwanted add ons. The one from the store just refused to install. Have since uninstalled Impulse/Gamestop and all seems to be well except for WB occasionally not loading at start up and occasionally crashing Explorer. Thanks for those who tried to help me! Greatly appreciated.
