due to system restore
Published on October 17, 2005 By Frankief In Object Desktop
After many failed attempts to update to WB5, I was finally able to get it installed last  Saturday. Due to another problem with my anti virus software, I had to use a system restore point prior to the update and now I cannot get 5 to install. It gets to the final extraction at 99% and SDC completely vanishes from the screen. If I try to reboot, when Windows restarts SDC is running in the task manager and I have to manually kill the process before the system will boot completely. I have done this more than a half dozen times over the last few days with the same results. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the 4.6 so many times I am dizzy. Can someone help me resolve this issue?

When you re-boot, SDC is running? You sure it's not SDMCP?

No, I am not sure but whatever it is, it prevents my system from loading completely. What is SDMCP?

Open SDC/ Tools/ Settings/ General and un-check both MCP settings. Un-install WB and delete the WB folder. Save any skins you might want and then re-boot. Install this http://storage.stardock.com/files/sdcentral_setup.exe right over the one you have and re-boot. Open SDC and install WB5.

I will give this a try but if I save my skins to a new folder, how do I get them back into Window Blinds once it is installed? Thanks for trying to help.

Just copy them back. When you get WB5 installed don't load any of your old skins. Load the 'Aura' skin in WB5 config after you install WB5 and re-boot.

Thank you, thank you. It worked like a charm. Only problem now is when I try to restart my computer it hangs and I have to use the reset button. Maybe that will work itself out. My hubby just reminded me that I have to get up at 6AM, so need to sign off for now. Again, thanks so much for your help!
